Description

I have been drawing since I was a tiny child; a sketchbook is my constant companion. Drawing underpins my art practice and I have no problem drawing live in public, I think it is good for people to see how artists work. My sketchbooks are the basis of my printmaking, a storehouse of ideas and inspiration to feed into linocuts and woodcuts, screenprints and monotypes. My artwork tends to be figurative and reflects my commitment to making art available to people who would not normally participate.

The piece that I have created for the fifty-year anniversary of the Miners’ Library, is inspired by the career of the late Professor Jen Wilson, who did some pioneering work with film when she worked for the Miners’ Library, including a documentary about the Miners’ Wives during the Miners’ Strike of 1984–85. This has provided me with source material along with contemporary press photographs.
