SPW is entirely volunteer-led but we also work with project staff and freelance artists to deliver a varied programme of activities.

As well as our contribution to the cultural landscape, we are proud to contribute to the local economy. One of the ways we do this is through our Opportunities. Different opportunities offer different ways to learn new life skills and work experience, develop artistic practice, and to earn income within the arts sector.

And, of course, all our opportunities offer a chance simply to meet others and be part of a supportive, friendly team and community.

Volunteering

We do not receive any core funding and could not do all that we do without our fantastic team of volunteers!

We are entirely volunteer-led; volunteers manage the organisation and support all the activities that we deliver – from our day-to-day needs to fundraising, from our workshop programme to exhibitions, events and projects. And much more!

Director role

Our Directors are responsible for the strategic direction of the organisation and the effective administration and management of all our activities. We would particularly welcome enquiries from those who have business, administration and project management expertise as well as artistic experience.

Open Access Supervisor

Offering an Open Access facility lies at the heart of SPW.  Our Open Access Leaders (volunteer-members) are experienced printmakers who provide a safe and friendly environment in which our members can work during OA studio times. We are always looking to maintain and extend the available opening hours so those who are in work and education and with other daytime responsibilities have more opportunity to use the studio. You can read more about the role on our Opportunities page in the Members Area.

Other roles

Volunteers support us with all aspects of a small arts organisation: administration, finance, building maintenance, grant writing and other fundraising, marketing and event management. If you have any of these skills we would love to hear from you.

We also need occasional support to help staff our events, invigilate exhibitions, support our fundraising and more! We usually call out for such support through our newsletter and social media.

Appreciation

We really appreciate all the support we receive from our team of volunteers.  In return, we offer: One hour’s studio time for every hour of your volunteer time, relevant in-house training to support your volunteer work, priority booking for workshops on our Workshop Programme and the occasional opportunity for subsidized training on workshops.

Get in touch

We would love to discuss any of our volunteer roles with you. Please email us in the first instance and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

Project Teams

SPW has a long history of delivering successful projects. Take a look at our Project Archive for an insight into our previous projects.

Each project that we deliver requires a specific team of staff usually on a contract and/or freelance basis. Previous project roles include: Lead and Assistant artists, Outreach/Community Artists, Project Coordinator, Marketing Officer, Administrative Assistant, Events Assistant, Studio Technician.

We also may call for additional volunteer support during a project.

Keep in touch

Opportunities for both paid and volunteer staff are advertised through our newsletters and social media and on our website at Current Projects. You can sign up for our newsletters and find links to our social media on Home.

Workshop Leaders

We deliver a lively annual programme of printmaking and other creative workshops. We are always looking for interesting approaches to printmaking techniques, for workshops in drawing and other complementary artforms. Take a look at our current Workshop Programme and our Workshop Profiles for more details on the type of workshops we offer.

Get in Touch

If you would like to propose a workshop, please get in touch by email. We would love to discuss your ideas further with you.
