Introductory workshop to work with some really lovely materials to create decorative ‘papers’ with experienced leader Anne Gullick.
These papers can then be used for a variety of applications in collage and bookbinding and card making and general craftwork
Discover the beauty of using lustrous silk fibres to create your own silk ‘paper’, which you can then use in a host of ways in a variety of stitched, collaged and printed pieces; or you may just prefer to sit and admire their wonderful lustrous, colourful qualities!
During this one day workshop we will begin by looking at the simple materials needed, and explore and contrast the different type of silk fibres, before learning the technique of how to layer them, and create textures, and even add in threads, and insertions.
- You will then be able to make an undyed natural silk paper sheet, an undyed textured sheet, and a dyed piece using her own hand dyed fibres.
- As these are drying you will learn how easy it is to produce and make some silk leaves to use in other projects
- We will then go on to form a bowl from these gorgeous fibres
All materials for above are included
There will be some additional items for sale, and advice on the best suppliers for purchase of materials.
She will bring along some other items to keep any idle hands busy on mini projects , if we have spare time towards the end of the workshop.
What you can bring to the Workshop.
Your lunch!
A selection of leaves, fresh but with pronounced veins if possible.
Wear protective clothing as we will be using gluey paste, and use latex gloves if you wish.
A small bowl ( eg. Cereal / pudding type) to use as a mould .
A one inch clean brush, and if you have a basic sewing kit , including beads, colourful threads as well, that too, but I will have these items on hand also in case you are unable to bring them along.
Please be aware that your pieces may not be dry to take home so I would recommend bringing a plastic bag
