Jackie Ford Qualia III Discourse I digital print

I was experimenting with some relief prints which involved a whole series of stencils. These stencils and the offset prints proved more attractive than the original relief print. I scanned a lot of them into the computer and these prints are the result.

At the same time I came across this word Qualia

‘Qualia are the phenomenal qualities of experiences—the raw felt qualities of sensations, emotions, thoughts, or anything else.  They are experienced privately, subjectively, and directly; all the content of consciousness states is made of them’

And it seemed to reflect the inner dialogue that goes on in handling and arranging colour and materials

I love the combination of image and text : having trained in typography as a student it has given me a love of the written language in all its forms even when it seems to disintegrates into mysterious runes
