Description

Being a great fan of Paul Peter Piech and his use of text and image, I was looking for a text to use for a print for this project. I found this one in the excellent Big Pit Museum Guide, National Coal Museum publication that illustrates so much of the lives of miners in its history. This is an actual quote from a nineteenth-century miner.

It sat alongside a very striking photograph of a miner that seemed to fit perfectly with the text and this is a small section of that photograph. The image has been processed through a halftone process to leave it as a stark black and white statement.

The text has been cut as a lino block and has a deliberately ‘rough-hewn’ quality.
