Learn how to monoprint using a gel plate, to create beautiful colourful and textural prints.
This course will teach you an exciting new skill to use in your print making. Using a Gel Plate provides endless creative possibilities without the need for a printing press and therefore you’ll be able to achieve this printing method almost anywhere! Louise takes her Gel Plate on all her travels to enhance her journals.
During this one day workshop, which is designed for print making enthusiasts of all levels from absolute beginner to experienced printers, you will be guided through the essentials of Gel Plate Printing, and taught techniques that are accessible and adaptable.
You’ll experiment with layering colour and textures using stencils, masks, found and recycled materials – from kitchen draw treasures to botanicals.- turning everyday leftovers into layered stories. You will leave the workshop with print examples you may wish to frame. During the workshop we will explore an understanding of how different paint and papers impact Gel Prints, the amount of paint to use, how to clean , care for and store a Gel Plate.
All supplies are included but if you are thinking of getting your own Gel Plate Louise recommends size 5” x 7” and you’ll have an opportunity to use it during the day. Don’t forget an apron, please dress for mess!
What to bring | What to prepare
Please bring a simple outline silhouette design to fit in 10cm square, to use in conjunction with the Gel Print papers you will produce. Louise will bring in botanicals but feel free to bring a few fresh leaves – please keep them small!
If purchasing a Gel Plate Louise Hughes recommends GELLI ARTS, GEL PRESS, GELELF 5″ x 7″.
