Description
My work is a lino block print. It encapsulates the fusion between people and machinery to extract coal from the depths of the earth. The natural resource of Wales living beneath our feet.
Machinery enhanced mass production, revolutionising the industry, and increasing demand on human beings to toil underground. The long hours they worked reduced financial hardship on families but risked serious injury and death.
In my piece I am showing the hardness of the metal; the clanking sounds of machinery; the tedium of constant movement. Things which echo the efforts of men and women to dig out, load and move the dark carbon deposits.
