Visiting artist from Germany | Catrin Grosse
Experienced printmaker and sculptor, Catrin is visiting artist with Swansea University’s Agor project. During her stay we have taken the opportunity to offer this workshop for Swansea Print Workshop.
This will feature her ‘anvil process’ taking a linocut through an intaglio process using the etching press with its extreme pressure. Selective inking and wiping gives an enhanced finish to the prints and another dimension to the relief block. She uses a softer lino which can be cut and inked and then re-assembled. This is a 2 day workshop which will give plenty of time for exploring the printing process and producing some quality finished prints.
No previous experience necessary as everything will be supplied. If you have done linocutting before, this is a chance to extend the printing possibilities using our etching press.
A range of quality cutting tools will be available for you to try out.
What to bring
- some graphic (black and white) drawings, photographs or source / reference material to help with your design
- Wear old clothes/ overall/ apron/ to protect yourself from inks
- Bring your lunch along to save time / Kettle . fridge and microwave available in the kitchen. There are plenty of food outlets in the market or Tescos just across the main road if you prefer.
This workshop is part of our MiniPrint Wales Project.
We aim to raise the profile of printmaking in Wales, and showcase the work of emerging and professional printmakers.
Funded by the Arts Council of Wales, our project will help develop the skills and expertise of amateur and professional printmakers, and introduce printmaking to new audiences through exceptional learning opportunities.
The programme will focus on the creation of mini prints, contained within a square area of 10cm x 10cm on a paper size measuring 18cm x 18cm.
Participants will have an opportunity to submit their work for exhibition at Mission Gallery, Swansea in October 2023, and all selected work will be published in a bilingual exhibition catalogue.
