Reduction monotype prints are one-off prints, made by building up colour layers. In this workshop the emphasis will be on exploring colour and playing with shapes, layers and composition.

You will learn a basic 3-colour reduction monotype printmaking process, and practice inking a printing plate, and printing from it using the workshop press. You will explore making different compositions by layering up colours, using paper and plant materials (such as leaves) to make simple stencils and masks.

This course is an introduction and is open to all. Previous experience in printmaking is not needed.

What to bring:

We will be using oil-based inks, so I suggest that you wear warmish clothes that are suitable for inky-messy work and bring an apron.

Bring something for your lunch. There is a small kitchen in the print workshop where you can warm food up and make hot and cold drinks. Or there is a supermarket & other shops and cafes nearby if you prefer to pop out for lunch.

We will supply paper and inks and stencil materials.

If you like, you can bring other materials to use. You can, for example, press & dry some plant materials in advance, and bring them to use in your prints. Any materials must be thin, dry and non-metallic, such as fabric, leaves or flowers.

Bring your sketchbook or notebook, for ideas for your prints, and to make notes about the process.

We can supply latex gloves to protect your hands, but bring your own if you have glove-types that you prefer to use.
