Whether it is to raise money for equipment or building maintenance, to match funds or cover a shortfall in a project, volunteers and other supporters of SPW have been there for us along the way. Without their generosity and passion for printmaking and what we do, we could not have achieved all that we have.

We hope you will enjoy reading a selection of past fundraising achievements and memories below.

Funds continue to be raised through artwork generously donated by our artist-members and other supporters, and by commission on sales of prints which can be purchased in our online shop and in the studio alongside cards and other items.

Swansea Print Workshop celebrated two Dylan Thomas anniversaries in 2003 and 2014 with the collaborative production of two limited edition boxed sets of prints inspired by the poet. These are perfect purchases for a special celebration or as part of your business or organisation’s art collection. They can be viewed and purchased in our online shop. Individual prints from both collections are also available to purchase.

All proceeds from any art sales go towards SPW’s activities.

If you have a fundraising idea or wish to donate a print, we would be delighted to hear from you. Please email us or if you are visiting or working in the studio, have a chat with one of the Directors or Open Access Supervisors. If you are a Full or Keyholder member, you can find out how to sell work through SPW here.

Fundraising Memories

In 2015 we celebrated 15 years of being open to the public.  We were delighted when Glenys Cour generously donated one of her vibrant oil paintings to help us raise funds to deliver the activities for this special anniversary.

A culturally significant artist in Wales, Glenys Cour has been a supporter of SPW since it was founded. The Prize Draw for Glenys’ painting raised an amazing £935 towards the project.

Glenys Cour ATD, RCA, MA (Honorary), Fellow UW. Known as a colourist, Glenys Cour’s landscapes in oil are metaphors for the drama, mystery and mood of the land, seas and skies of Gower. Visit Glenys’ website here.

“My windows look out over the expansive skies and tides of Swansea Bay. To the west, far away, the remnants of industrial heritage and to the east the harbour and Lighthouse. It’s a marvellous view, the light changes all the time, there’s always something new to see.”

In 2014 (to 13 January 15) we ran a crowdfunding campaign which raised over £1400 for our building fund. The funds raised enabled us to tackle some of the pressing maintenance issues and smarten up the premises in time for our 15th Anniversary Year Celebrations.

In 2013/2014, we were able to purchase a studio iPad with a proportion of the £2,000 funds raised for the Dylan Thomas Dialogues project.  Volunteers were creative with ideas and also made items too, many with up and recycled materials. This year saw the setting up of SPW’s Art Shop and a number of activities were staged including: a table top sale, Art Swap social evening, SPW at the Green Fayre as well as our major event, the Prints & Plants Summer Fete.

In 2011, we had a tough goal – to raise £2500 towards the purchase of a new Screen Printing Press. The target was achieved through staging a number of events: a Book Auction, On-line Monthly Print Auction, a Fine Art Print Fair and more.

In 2000, and again in 2004, we held print auctions at the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery. Each time we were overwhelmed with the generous response by artists to our appeal to donate artwork.

In 2000, we raised a fantastic £5,000 towards the costs of refurbishing the building.

In 2004, we collaborated with the Josef Herman Trust to sell some of their collection to help fund their outreach work.
