Swansea Print Workshop is run by volunteers and that includes the members of the Board of Directors, all of whom are registered at Companies House.

The Directors are responsible for the strategic direction of the organisation and the effective administration and management of all our activities. We each look after different aspects of the necessary legal and financial framework of a community organisation, the running and updating of the website, the workshop programme and the practical upkeep of the building and facilities

These activities can seem rather divorced from the everyday life of the workshop at times and it has recently become clear that a closer dialogue with our membership would be both useful and beneficial to everyone.

In our Directors’ meeting of 6 August 2025, we asked members Yvonne Hills and Louise Hughes if they would represent the membership at the Directors’ meetings to facilitate this dialogue about anything to do with the running of the workshop, the workshop programme, invited artists, the facilities, projects, exhibitions and general use of the workshop.

We recognised that they were already doing much of this through their contact with members while supervising and organising Open Access sessions and through the members-only Artist Book Group project which was part of our 25-Year Anniversary activities in 2025.

Louise produced a very comprehensive assessment of participants’ feedback and lessons we can learn for the future. A selection of feedback is shared with members here. More details about the project are available on Artist Book Project.

Yvonne and Louise will have access to the agenda for the monthly Directors’ meetings and will be able to table matters for attention and discussion. Their role will evolve as we find out what is most useful and productive to members.

Our membership is at the heart of SPW. Through our shared energy and passion, we have been able to thrive as a community organisation. We welcome all input whether it be raising issues or suggestions for the creative programme we offer and we thank Yvonne and Louise for taking on this new role.
