I came to wood engraving around 2003, having seen The Annual Travelling Exhibition of The Society of Wood Engravers that year, and been astonished at the beauty, skill and creativity of the medium’s practitioners. Since then I have been thoroughly ‘hooked’ and for some years past have been part of that Exhibition.
I love the medium’s invitation to explore and express, in diversity of cuts, the rhythms, pattern, contrast and textures of the natural world.
Being a graphic medium it is also a vehicle for communicating ideas and making social comments which I also sometimes engage in.
I was born in Pembrokeshire( though I now live in The Black Mountains of Monmouthshire), and I have always had a love of the land and the sea. Visits to Orkney also accord with the images I have retained since childhood.
I look forward to exploring, drawing and engraving in the Gower and Glamorgan coastal regions; and to teaching engraving to new students who may also be inspired to learn as I was.
