With support from the Arts Council of Wales, Swansea Print Workshop has partnered with Small Woods / Coed Lleol to widen art experiences outdoors to a more diverse audience.
Small Woods / Coel Lleol along with the Swansea Bay Health Board, have many years of gathering evidence, which prove the value of skills-based workshops delivered in nature and the positive impact the sessions have on the health and wellbeing of participants.
The Arts in Nature on Prescription project, designed to deliver printmaking and craft sessions in woodland settings, is running from April to October 2024.
The project focuses on two health challenges:
- Declining mental health, currently exacerbated by cost-of-living
- Health inequalities and access for culturally diverse communities
Coed Lleol identified groups in the community who would benefit, and specifically targeted adults and adolescents with mental health support needs, and alongside Race Council Cymru Swansea, they also identified culturally diverse groups.
Through the partnership, Swansea Print Workshop is looking forward to supporting the delivery of the programme and taking printmaking outside, making it accessible to groups who may not otherwise engage in fine art printmaking activities. We will also invite the participating groups to the workshop so they are able to experience our facility first hand, and connect with a wider group of artists and printmakers.
As well as the delivery of the sessions to local communities, the partnership will support skills development sessions for staff and creative professionals through development days and an end of project exhibition.
