Yet another take on how to use a relief block made of traditional lino. Catrin initially demonstrated how she prints her lovely expressive blocks using one of our etching presses. In this case it was our large Radcliffe press which delivers enormous pressure.
Catrin cuts her block into pieces, and reassembles them like a jigsaw.
She inks up each section using various methods and creates wonderful tonal ranges. As well as traditional top rolling, she uses scrim to apply and remove ink which creates an intaglio effect.
Her work is hugely experimental. She often passes her blocks through the press several times to over-print and create movement.
Some of the block prints in relief, ie the original surface of the block, but the dampened paper can also pick up the textures and carved marks that have been cleared away from the surface.
