Using antique wood type and printing presses, this two day hands-on workshop will introduce you to Letterpress Printing – its uses, history and application as a print process.

Over two days you will learn how to set and print a variety of designs using different wood type and image blocks, leaving the workshop with a selection of simple prints that you have hand set and printed under tuition from Mark Pavey. You will learn how to safely operate and utilise the printing presses, handle wood type and make adjustments to your designs to create beautiful and well printed designs. This workshop is suitable for beginners.

Please bring comfy suitable shoes and clothes to work in.

About the Artist

Mark Pavey is a printmaker and educator living in Swansea. Specialising in Letterpress Printing for 20 years, Mark produces a range of his own prints and designs while also running creative printmaking workshops for all ages that support the learning of traditional craft alongside introducing contemporary technologies.

About the Studio

You can find us in a row of terraced houses, look out for our fabulous door surround set in a green painted house front; the intercom buzzer is on the left of the entrance.

Parking is free all day outside the studio on Sundays only. On Saturday, there is 1 hour parking outside the studio, so you can park there to unload any bags. 3 hour parking is available outside of the controlled city centre zone. There are also multiple long stay car parks in the town centre.

We are close to the main shopping centre and supermarket. There are some facilities for making a hot drink, microwave if you would like to bring along your lunch.

PLEASE NOTE | If you are not a member and are considering more workshops with us, you might like to consider joining as an ordinary member for £35 and enjoy considerable savings on further workshops. Once you have joined you can book in straightaway at the reduced rate. For example, for a  two day workshop at £200, you would £180. Additionally you will be able to use the workshop on open access sessions to pursue work independently.
