This is an Advanced Gel Printing workshop . It is a day workshop for those already familiar with Beyond The Basics of Gel Printing.
During this workshop we will experiment with Gel Plate printing techniques of layering and revise our ability to successfully manage the tricky process of image transfer using images from printed items and laser prints.
We will look at all the elements that make a successful print. You will learn how to select the correct images and what combination of materials work best to achieve successful image transfer prints.
Having successfully transferred a high contrast photograph we will explore ‘Reverse painting’ directly on to the gel plate. It is a printmaking technique where you build an image backward, painting the fine details, highlights, and foreground elements first before adding background layers. You paint specific highlights, shapes, and colours directly onto the plate over or around the transferred image, letting layers dry. Once your painting is completely dry, you roll a final, thin layer of paint or gel medium over the entire plate, press the substrate firmly onto it, and peel it off to lift the entire creation in one pull.
In addition to using a Gel Plate we will explore producing prints using a Silicone Mat creating larger prints as well as being more economical than some Gel Plates.

What to Bring
All materials and tools will be provided but participants will need to bring their own Gel Plate(s). You will also need a Silicone Baking Mat. There will be some spares available but you are encouraged to purchase your own. Louise recommends the make Zeal.
