Sarah Hopkins |  Screenprinting with paper stencils

Sarah is running this workshop on the weekend of May 26/27.

Fully booked

Those of you who are familiar with her work will know that she has her own unique approach to designing for print, capitalising on cut and torn paper stencils to build up the design through coloured layers. No coating of screens, no exposures – just cutting and a lot of thought!

This is a very open, non technical approach enabling great flexibility as you go through the design process

What you will need
Cutting mat | We have some of these, but if you have one of your own, bring it along. These are available at outlets like The Range quite cheaply and are a good piece of kit to have. As well as providing protection for work surfaces they offer the least resistance to your cutting blade. There are transparent cutting mats available which are particularly useful for working on the light box and seeing through a couple of layers of thin paper.
A good cutting knife | This is a matter of personal taste, but replaceable blades are essential for fine cutting. The cheap shops, pound stores and the Range again offer cheap sets.
A protective overall|  best to cover up decent clothes, the printing ink will wash off but can leave a stain
A4 photocopies of an image you would like to use | this can be a photograph and or a drawing.
Best to have several copies of these, at the size you want the finished print to be
Drawing materials | nothing special, pencil etc and perhaps a couple of fine line felt tips
